League Two

Post by bristleposh » 16 May 2020, 10:58

I have read and heard on TV that league two sides have decided in their wisdom (sic) to finish the season now, because it is claimed it would cost them to much to finish the remaining games behind closed doors, some saying they would probably go out of business.
I assume that as there is very little likelihood of games being allowed in August, September, possibly even before the end of 2020, that they'll be able to stay afloat during this period.
I think there attitude stinks.

This still needs to be ratified by the EFL and the FA.
If they call it all off there should be no promotion or relegation from League Two.

I think the top three are hoping to be promoted

Of course they are! So are their fans.
According to that article you quoted
The EFL said clubs "unanimously indicated" they wished to end the season via a "framework" that included tables being decided on points per game and the play-offs remaining as planned.
I thinks that PPG is a bonkers idea. If they don't want to finish the season properly just void it altogether.
Same goes with League 1 by the way.

So why not just void next season and finish this one as and when (or if) they can

Good question, Nick.
Finish this season whenever possible. This isn't going to be with us forever.
But why add "if"? Football will definitely start again. "When" is the only question.

Agreed. No season should ever be compromised. The integrity of the game is paramount and if it means waiting until early next year then so be it. They may have to consider what to do in the 2020-21 season but at least this present season would be seen as a proper finished article. Start something and it should always be finished - if you don't even start a season then no one can have any argument against it.

Good idea. Too many clubs are paying wages at a level that they cannot really afford. Principle correct - only argument might be over the amount of the cap.

In Scotland, because the pubs are all shut they have had to cancel the rest of the season awarding the title to the runaway leaders. It seems nonsense when the head of the Scottish FA was on TV procrastinating that they had to make a decision quickly so that season 20/21 could start in August/September, why on earth does it need to start then or haven't they thought of that. If it is OK for football to start in August/September what on earth would have been wrong with finishing the 19/20 season then!.

Does it really matter?
As long as Posh play again and the Aussie Rules and Rugby League start again I'll be happy.

Shame for Colchester as it is a reasonably easy ground to attend and I sincerely hope that the Cobblers make sure that we won't have that awful three hour journey down to Exeter.
A game against our nearest rivals is a mouth watering prospect.
