Season 2020/21

Post by tonyp » 13 Jun 2020, 20:58

DMac says he has turned his focus to getting the club promoted next season.
https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/53036069
He is planning for next season to start by late September, with the first games behind closed doors due to Covid-19.

"We've got to get out of this league, we've got to get into that Championship," said MacAnthony.

Peterborough are likely to have to sell 26-goal top-scorer Ivan Toney, with MacAnthony saying the club already has a target in mind to replace the 24-year-old.

And while there might be more chances for young players, MacAnthony says he and his fellow directors will ensure the club will be solvent in the next few months, even if games are played behind closed doors.

The club needs to move on fast. Going on about the injustice and all that will be like picking at a scab. The bigger problem is the virus because there is no guarantee the gates can open in September or October.

I think they will, with reduced attendance. They have managed to open sporting events in New Zealand and Serbia with crowds, so why not here.

Season ticket Holders only will be allowed initially. General crowd when vaccine arrives.

If a vaccine arrives it will be the first time that a Coronavirus has been vaccinated.

We've certainly had a lot of that lately.

They are allowing crowds into AFL games here. In July they will be allowed 25% of capacity. Maximum 10,000.

Claim you’re “protesting” about something and you’ll be allowed to gather in mass groups with no repercussions so therefore we should all be able to attend games.

I know that's tongue in cheek but I think that there will be trouble when clubs start trying to admit only season ticket holders. Normal fee paying fans would be kept out, wanting access to the ground. If that goes on for too long, clubs will start to lose their core supporters. This could be catastrophic for them long term as once fans leave and find something else to do on a Saturday afternoon it is very difficult to get them to return. Witness the exodus from Posh in 2000 when Barry Fry appeared to have done wrong to the fans. Very few returned and I am afraid that a similar situation may happen in the coming years.

Yeah it was tongue in cheek but I do think people should be able to attend games but with a reduced capacity of say 35% of usual capacity. If games are played BCDs next season then all those clubs who couldn't 'afford to play again this season' won't be able to next year either, I'm looking at you Wycombe Wanderers........................

'Go big or go home' - Sunderland's promotion rivals set demanding target
Sunderland’s League One rivals Peterborough United have been set the daunting challenge of winning both the League One title and Leasing.com Trophy next season.
Posh co-owner Darragh MacAnthony has piled the pressure on manager Darren Ferguson before a ball has even been kicked.
Speaking on his ‘Hard Truth’ podcast, MacAnthony said: “My expectations have doubled for next season”.
“I want the title and the Football League Trophy. Do I put pressure on the people around me? Yes I do and I don’t regret it.”

Release of League 1 fixtures
Peterborough Telegraph https://www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/sp ... e-2938701
Posh co-owner Darragh MacAnthony tweeted that August 20 might be the release date, but the Peterborough Telegraph believes the EFL have indicated the following day is more likely.

The League One season is due to start on September 12 with a Carabao Cup tie scheduled for September 5. A Leasing.com Trophy tie could also take place on September 8/9.

Posh are keen to play teams with small fanbases in the early stages of the season so the financial impact of having no paying audience is lessened.
Seems to be the hope of every team, not just Posh.
